Across the globe, cultures have developed their own style and interpretation of coffee.

Italians like it short and dark, the French like it in a cup at a cafe with a cigarette in hand, and Americans milky, with sugar and cream.

No matter how you have it, the fact is that caffeine is a highly addictive stimulant and most of us are hooked. A good chunk of the population can't function until they’ve had their morning coffee, but how did this become the norm? Surely there's a better alternative?

So, what does caffeine do to the brain? What are the neurological effects of caffeine? Scientists have studied caffeine consumption and found a massive sliding scale from when caffeine goes from a harmless energy boost, to a dangerous psychoactive drug. Medical experts calculate that 40-50 cups of coffee would straight up kill you.

But, is coffee good for your memory? In a word, no. It will will wake you up and make you 'feel' more alert... but that's about the extent of its cognitive benefits. So when it comes to the question, is caffeine a cognitive enhancer - science says nope.

This led to the banning of powdered caffeine being sold in supplement stores, as all too often people were overdosing and there have been occasions where it has led to death.

The alternative has arrived and is making waves in the form of NOOTROPICS!

Although nootropics are yet to go full - mainstream they are gaining popularity fast. Often known as “smart drugs” they are essentially natural compounds that enhance mental clarity and performance, without the crashes of caffeine. Additionally, a well blended ‘nootropics stack’ goes way beyond the benefits of caffeine by its ability to generate both short-term and long-term benefits across all your cognitive pathways. In the world of vitamins the brain has been long been neglected and seemingly forgotten, until now. Nootropics are essentially multivitamins for your brain which can be tailored to enhance your executive cognitive functions such as working memory and adaptable thinking.

Yootropics™ Brain has 12 carefully selected nootropics in a single capsule, making it the best in its class. Additionally, Brain is the first and only ‘whole-brain’ nootropic to be listed in the ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods).

Let’s have a look at one nootropic that produces significant benefits, backed by deep clinical research: Sibelius Sage - this is a real powerhouse.

Sibelius Sage (Sage officinalis) is a branded, traceable, scientifically evidenced and clinically proven dried sage extract specifically designed enhance memory and alertness PLUS maintain long-term brain health.

The study, conducted by Scholey, A.B, Tildesley N.T.J and Ballard C.G et al. and published in Psychopharmacology 198 in 2008 highlighted a raft of benefits across participants aged 18-60. These benefits included reducing anxiety, increasing alertness, and increasing calmness. But there is more - this study highlighted that this nootropic also showed an acute improvement in cognitive function with particular benefits in secondary memory. That said, further studies have shown significant results in children and adults in memory, accuracy and speed of attention by supporting the activity of key neuro-transmitters.

Whereas coffee disrupts sleep, causes jitters, irritability and tension, medical studies of nootropics show, such as Sibelius Sage, that they improve focus, motivation, concentration and aid memory recall without any side-effects, or withdrawal symptoms.

Other nootropics such as Bacopa Monnieri, Rhodiola Rosea, Panax Ginseng, and Pinaster Pinus (Pine Bark) can be used as a ‘stack’ with Sibelius Sage to further heighten alertness, reduce oxidative stress, and improve mental stamina.

OK - but here’s the good news: you don’t have to quit coffee either. While coffee can affect your nutrient absorption, avoiding it for an hour either side of taking your supplement means there’ll be no negative effects. However, when we’re operating from a higher level and firing on all cylinders naturally, we don't need to rely on the humble cup.
